CHICAGO, April 16, 2026 -Munchie season is upon us.
And the food-away-from-home industry is ready to capitalize on the upcoming 4/20 “holiday,” the day in April that has unofficially become a mainstream celebration of cannabis culture.
Over the years, 4/20 has morphed from a “high” holy day largely observed by independent operators to one embraced by larger restaurant chains, delivery services and more.
Currently, recreational marijuana use is legal in 24 states and Washington, D.C., with those products sold via licensed dispensaries. Roughly the same number of states allow for the sale of hemp-derived THC products, such as canned drinks and edibles, at convenience stores, grocery stores and restaurants, thanks to a hemp loophole in the 2018 Farm Bill.
That loophole, however, is slated for closure as the hemp-THC industry faces a looming federal ban that’s set to take effect in November if lawmakers aren’t persuaded to enact a deadline extension or amended legislation.
But that potential downer isn’t stopping these high-potential 4/20 marketing promos.
Here’s a look at some of the 4/20 gimmicks for 2026 in the FAFH industry:
Jimmy John's
Sandwich chain Jimmy John’s is dropping its “Dream Rotation” limited-time menu for the occasion, with sandwich+munchie pairings created by celebrities including Cheech Marin, Skyler Gisondo, Amanda Batula and Kal Penn. Offerings include the Wake n’ Bacon (B.L.T. with BBQ Jimmy Chips), Sauced (Beach Club with Salt & Vinegar Jimmy Chips), Spicy Session (Spicy East Coast Italian with Jalapeno Jimmy Chips) and The OG (Italian Night Club with Salt & Vinegar Jimmy Chips). All sandwiches, of course, are served toasted, and each combo includes a Cereal n’ Milk Crispy treat.
Wingstop
Chicken-wing slinger Wingstop is bringing back its Wingstop Hot Box, with this year’s edition designed to “take the holiday to new heights,” the chain said. This year’s combo features the return of the spicy, cheesy Fiery Nacho dry rub flavor, which diners can get on either three tenders or eight wings, all served on a bed of fries. The craving-busting dish is drizzled with ranch and sprinkled with a “natural herb” seasoning. Each Hot Box comes with a 20-ounce drink and a choice of dipping sauce.
Gopuff
With a name like Gopuff, the ultra-fast grocery and convenience delivery platform seems legally obligated to mark the 4/20 occasion. Indeed, the delivery provider’s website lists “get baked” goods, along with hemp-THC beverages and gummies, and “high savings” on munchie favorites like Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, Doritos, Cheetos, Gatorade and more.
Insomnia Cookie
Late-night treats chain Insomnia Cookies is debuting its first-ever collab with packaged snacks maker Hostess for an aptly timed 4/20 menu. Offerings include the Cloud 9 Cravings Classic (a sugar cookie filled with cream cheese chunks, vanilla cake pieces, marshmallows and butter crumble, topped with a Hostess Twinkies snack cake) and the Strawberry Toastie Filled Classic (a sugar cookie with strawberry filling, topped with a toaster pastry). Insomnia also promised that rewards members can “anticipate surprise and delight moments” on April 20.
Cheba Hut
Perennial 4/20 celebrant Cheba Hut is back with a $4.20 deal on its 4-inch toasted sub sandwiches, which the chain calls Nugs. The counterculture-themed sandwich chain will also give out limited-edition frisbees on the big day, which Cheba Hut calls a “badge of honor for longtime homies.” The flying discs double as a serving tray for subs of all sizes. “4/20 is part of our DNA, and our crew shows up for it ever year,” Cheba Hut’s SVP of marketing said.
